Smash Burgers Just Entered the Chat.
The Big Green Egg Cast Iron Grill Press creates perfect "smash" burgers with crispy edges and a juicy center, and prevents curling when cooking bacon or ham.
The Grill Press will also help you achieve those perfect sear marks when grilling steaks and seafood, and is a great tool for creating paninis and other pressed sandwiches.
Why a grill press changes everything:
The secret to great smash burgers is maximum contact with the hot cooking surface. This heavy cast iron press smashes your burger flat, creating tons of surface area for that caramelized, crispy crust. It's also the cure for curling bacon and the key to perfect paninis.
Built tough:
-
Heavy-duty enamelled cast iron: The weight does the work
-
Cool-grip spiral handle: Safe, comfortable grip even when the press is hot
-
Even heat distribution: Keeps food flat as it cooks
-
Dishwasher-safe: Easy cleanup
Perfect for:
-
Smash burgers: That crispy, lacy-edged perfection
-
Bacon: Stays flat, cooks evenly, no curling
-
Ham steaks: Prevents curling, promotes even browning
-
Steaks: Extra searing pressure for perfect crust
-
Seafood: Flat fish fillets, pressed scallops
-
Paninis: Pressed sandwiches without a panini press
-
Grilled cheese: Crispy, evenly browned perfection
-
Chicken thighs: Flattens for even cooking, crispy skin
The smash burger technique:
- Form loose balls of ground beef (don't overwork the meat)
- Get your cast iron surface ripping hot
- Place ball on hot surface
- Immediately press down hard with the grill press
- Hold for 10 seconds, then release
- Don't touch until edges are crispy and brown
- Flip once, add cheese, done
How to use:
- Preheat the grill press on your EGG for best results
- Apply firm, even pressure
- For smash burgers, press immediately and hard
- For bacon and sandwiches, gentle pressure is enough
- The weight of the press does most of the work
Pro tips:
- Preheat the press for extra searing power
- For smash burgers, don't press twice — one and done
- Use on a cast iron griddle or plancha for best results
- Season your burgers on the outside, not mixed in
- The enamelled surface makes cleanup a breeze
